Doctrine Of God 8

In this lesson we will study the trustworthiness of God.

Psalms 39:5b: . . . every man at his best state is altogether vanity.

We mortal men often feel that we are complete. We can even feel like God has no more that we need. But we are not trustworthy. We all fail. That is the way we are. There are some times when we can trust men for some things. We can put 100 percent of our trust in the Lord, but we must be careful not to put more trust in men than they are worthy of, not even ourselves.

Jeremiah 17:5, 7: Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. 7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

Proverbs 28:26: He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

Psalms 118:8: It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

The more Godly Christians are, the more we can trust them with spiritual things. But we must be careful not to place too much trust even in Christians and even in Pastors. We have all heard of Pastors who fell into sin and left a trail of destruction and broken hearts. Pastors have caused Christians to leave churches and never return. No matter how trustworthy we find Christians, we must trust the Lord more. Because He is trustworthy, we can trust fully and completely in Him. We must not be too lazy or too foolish to study the Bible for ourselves in order to know that the Christians we follow and learn from are Biblical.

Acts 17:10-11: And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

It is one thing to make promises; it is another thing to be able to carry them out. Do you believe that God is able to fulfill His promises. The correct answer is yes. Can you safely trust your all to Him? The correct answer is yes.

One. God has made many wonderful promises. Not one of them shall fail in the slightest degree.

Deuteronomy 7:9: Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

Joshua 21:45: There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

Joshua 23:14: And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.

Psalms 48:14: For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

It is amazing how so many individuals trust God for the powerful miracles He promises to fulfill in eternity but they do not trust Him for the ordinary little things in this life (unto death). There should be no disconnect between our faith in Him for eternity and for here and now today. It is strange that some claim to want to go to Heaven but they don*t go to church. Heaven will be like church all day and every day.

Two. We can trust Him for salvation as well as everything we need in this life. Some of God*s promises are for here and now and some are for our eternal future. We can trust ALL of them.

Psalms 27:10: When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

James 1:17: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Since God*s gifts come down to us, it means while we are still on earth. Some may raise the question: If God is so trustworthy why are there people and even believers starving to death? We think in terms of our sinful flesh and of our temporary and physical needs. God thinks in terms of our spirits and our eternal and spiritual needs. He knows what is most important. He can see things that we cannot see. We think in terms of our wants and desires and He thinks in terms of our needs.

Isaiah 57:1: The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.

Romans 8:18: For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

Three. God*s plan and purpose for us that every right desire should be satisfied and that we should be eternally happy.

2 Peter 3:9: The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Psalms 16:11: Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Psalms 17:15: As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.

Psalms 24:5: He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.

Psalms 36:7-8: How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

Revelation 21:3-4: And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. 4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

1 Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

1 Corinthians 13:12: For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

Now we must walk by faith. Then we shall see.
